NAA Pensions and Welfare Officers
This is your site. It is meant to be a working tool to aid and assist all The Naval Association of Australia Pensions and Welfare officers throughout the Association to gain knowledge, to assist each other in order that we may provide a better service to our shipmates and their families when they need us most.
It is meant to be a dynamic site that is ever-evolving. We all recognise that nothing remains the same. In the veteran community that is very evident. So if you see something that you think needs updating or have experience that can assist us all, please put your comments in the relevant section or in the NAA Pensions and Welfare Service Message Board or send the National Pensions & Welfare Coordinator an email (Telephone 07 54727359) or send the Deputy National Pensions & Welfare Coordinator (Alex McNeill Telephone 03 6343 2862) in order that the information can be distributed in the most effective manner.
Because of the confidential and sometimes personal nature of information that comes to the notice of our Pensions and Welfare officers it is important that anybody posting messages to the Message Board :-
ensures that names are filtered out in order that the beneficiary of our services is not identifiable.
This is even more important should you make comments regarding operating principles or wish to put examples of a particular occurrence in print.
What qualifications do I need to be a NAA Pensions or Welfare officer or Advocate ?
You must have completed the relevant TIP Course (and be in date).
It is important that you acknowledge the TIP Code of Ethics that the NAA Pensions and Welfare Service has adopted as its Code of Ethics for Pensions and Welfare purposes.
You must be appointed by a Sub Section, State Section or the National Council / Executive to hold and carry out the responsibilities and position of a Pensions or Welfare officer (commensurate with the level of training achieved).
Your Sub Section is required to report your appointment to your State Coordinator in order that the requirements of VITA (Veteran's Indemnity and Training Association) insurance and indemnity can be achieved for both yourself and the NAA. The NAA subscribes to VITA insurance in order to protect you with the appropriate level of professional indemnity consistent with your level of expertise and training.
Before attempting to act in any capacity for any individual you are required to obtain, complete and retain an authority from the client authorising your appointment for The Department of Veterans' Affairs and The Department of Defence on behalf of the Naval Association of Australia to act for the client.
Who is NOT authorised to act on behalf of The Naval Association of Australia in Pensions, Advocacy and Welfare matters?
Nobody is authorised to act as a Pensions Officer, Case Officer, Welfare Officer or Advocate for The Naval Association of Australia unless they fulfil the conditions outlined above.
No charge is to be made or solicited from a client. Donations to The Naval Association Pensions and Welfare Service will be accepted to assist in the ongoing funding of operations.
Pensions and Welfare Officers Message Board. A password will be issued to all qualified Pensions and Welfare Officers (on application) so that they may participate in this facility.
